Snowflake

Snowflake is where the modern data estate lives, and Solidatus maps all of it. Four kinds of lineage, tags, masking and row-access policies pulled straight into your model, so governance and lineage finally sit side by side.

What it is

Structure, several kinds of lineage, and Snowflake governance metadata, in one connector.

What Solidatus captures

Schemas, tables, views, columns, data types and key constraints; column-level lineage from SQL parsing, from Access History and from Query History; table-level lineage from object dependencies; tags, row-access policies and dynamic masking policies as reference model terms; and lineage across multiple Snowflake databases.

What you need

  • A dedicated Snowflake role and user. Grant USAGE on the database and on all and future schemas, and REFERENCES on all and future tables, views and materialized views. REFERENCES lets Solidatus see structure without reading data.
  • For SQL parsing of stored procedures, USAGE on procedures (older driver versions) or USAGE on the warehouse plus the SNOWFLAKE.OBJECT_VIEWER database role (newer driver versions).
  • For governance, Access History and Query History features, IMPORTED PRIVILEGES on the SNOWFLAKE database. This has to be granted by an ACCOUNTADMIN.

Good to know

Agent and Standalone mode, SOL.UIDs and MultiDB models are all supported. A separate Snowflake Multi-Database connector joins existing Snowflake models together so column lineage can be applied across databases.
